Ideate: SCAMPER
SCAMPER is good for products or components you want to improve or generate new ideas for
Subsitute - Replace or substitute one component for another
"Replace Wall charger with USB-C"
Combine - Combine 2 or more elements into one
"Have tables with USB charging ports"
Adapt - The main elements adapt to an external stimuli or industry demand
"Battery banks for charging"
Modify - How are we changing the size or properties of the initial concept
"Allow for more than one plug"
Put to other use - How can we use the elements in different ways
"Only let staff use it"
Eliminate - Let's eliminate elements to see how it affects our concept
"Remove the plug all together and have wireless charging"
Reverse - Flipping things around to see them differently
"Remove the power from the battery"
Testing
This is where we test the prototypes with users to get an idea of how well they work and do we need to go back to another phase to rework some of the ideas to test again.
- Face-to-face user test
- Remote user test
- A/B testing
- Persona testing
- Survey
What you need for a face-to-face user test?
Scenario -> Prototype -> User -> Tester -> Observers
Data types
Important to look at both quantitative & qualitative.
Quantity data like:
- How many passengers to attend the airport each day
- How much electricity would be needed to charge their devices
Psychology of design
Cognitive load:
Trying not to overwhelm the user with information
Positive and negative reinforcement:
Giving the user good or bad feedback based on what they are doing.
